When do we travel to
Martinique? January 3-17, 2007
What will we do in
Martinique? We’ll learn about
the island's culture by visiting and studying numerous sites, including:
the
rain forest; Fort-de-France, the capital; Saint-Pierre and Mont Pelée; mangrove
swamps; environmental museum in
Rivière Pilote; small towns; some of the most
beautiful BEACHES you'll ever see!
We’ll spend time attending
seminars at the university and getting to know students who study English.
We'll learn to play the steel
drums and take a Creole cooking class!
What are the course
requirements? Pre-trip assignments, keeping a
journal; group discussions; guided cultural activities;
mini-independent
research project on language, culture or the environment; final oral exam
Do I have to speak French
to go to Martinique? Although Martinique is predominantly French-speaking,
you can
complete all course requirements in English.
What if I want upper-level
credit in French? To receive upper-level French
credit, you must complete all course work
in French! You will also spend a week with French-speaking family. A professor from the French
department will monitor
your progress in Martinique.
How much does the trip cost? Approximately $2,600!
Includes:
airfare, most meals, ground transportation, lodging, university seminars in Martinique,
educational excursions,
textbooks, and supplemental insurance
What's not included?
All part-time and non-Albright students pay full course fee of $1,389.)
