The principal purpose of the Classical Languages Department is instruction in classical languages, leading to student literacy and fluency in the reading of ancient authors in Greek and Latin, with some competence in Greek and Latin composition. Our ultimate goal is a deepened awareness of the classical world and its impact on Western history and culture. We hope to train and develop you to be a humane, informed and devoted life-long consumer/reader of classical literature and ancient history.
