Study Abroad Ecuador
Interim 2012

Earn Credits in Spanish, Sociology, Religious Studies, Latin American Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies 

Information Session Monday, September 26, 2011 at 6pm in Masters 300

 

The course will take students to Ecuador for three weeks. While there, students will learn about the cultural landscape of Ecuador through classroom instruction, life with an Ecuadorian family and trips to diverse parts of the country. Tentatively, the trip will leave the U.S. in late December (after Christmas) and return on or near January 18, 2012.

Trip activities include

  • Living with an Ecuadorian family in Cuenca
  • Traveling in mountain and coastal portions of Ecuador
  • Experiencing Ecuadorian New Year’s Celebrations (burning Muñecas or ano viejos)
  • Improving the lives of Ecuadorians through a service project
  • Visiting Incan ruins (Ingapirca)
  • Visiting National Parks (El Cajas, Machalilla)
  • Snorkeling in the Pacific Ocean
  • Visiting Isla de la Plata (“poor-man’s Galapagos”)
  • And more………

Prerequisites:

  • Spanish 201 or higher
  • At least a GPA of 2.5
    • If you do not meet these requirements but are interested in the trip, schedule a meeting with Dr. Jennings

Trip Cost

  • Approximately $3,350 (depending on airfare and enrollment)
