THE DEPARTMENT of HISTORY at ALBRIGHT COLLEGE

FRIENDLY AND ACCESSIBLE, the scholar-teachers in Albright’s Department of History offer challenging courses in almost every historical period and every geographical region, and bring a wide range of thematic and methodological perspectives to their work with students.  In addition, each supervises individual research by students and contributes to the interdisciplinary offerings of the College.

John PankratzJohn Pankratz, Ph.D. (Cornell) Professor: Teaches courses in early American, 19th century, economic, and ecological history, as well as in the histories of Africa, American families, Pennsylvania and women’s work.  A former Fulbright Professor at both the Université de Franche-Comté in Besançon, France, and at the Université de Dakar in Sénégal, he has also been part of NEH Seminars at Johns Hopkins and the University of Chicago.  Inaugural winner of the Laughlin Award for Innovative Teaching and 2008 recipient of the Lindback Award, Pankratz animates the Alpha Program, the Phi Alpha Theta chapter, and the Albright String Chamber Orchestra (as director); appears often on stage with the Domino Players; and as Albright’s resident portrait photographer, has produced all the photography for Albright’s FACES campaign. jpankratz@albright.edu.
