The Department of Sociology at Albright College has resurrected its Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) chapter.  Originally founded in 1920 at the University of Southern California, AKD is *the* international sociology honors society.  Membership is competitive and based on the following criteria:

  1. Must be an officially declared sociology major or demonstrate a serious interest in sociology within an official program at Albright.
  2. Must be at least a junior.
  3. Must have maintained the equivalent of a 3.0 grade point average in sociology courses taken at the host institution prior to initiation.
  4. Must have accumulated the equivalent of an overall grade point average of 3.0.
  5. Must be ranked in the top 35% of your class in general scholarship.
  6. Must have completed at least four regular courses in sociology prior to initiation (exclusive of extension of courses graded pass/fail).

Students interested in joining AKD should contact Dr. Charles Brown in the department of sociology.  Why should you join AKD?  Well, for one thing it's only $40 for a lifetime membership.  It also looks very good on a resume and/or application to graduate or law school.  Membership also provides you with the opportunity to meet new people, get to know other sociology majors, and take on positions of leadership.  What's in the future for AKD at Albright?  Honestly, much of that depends on you students since you are the ones who will be planning activities and such.  An informal informational meeting will be taking place sometime in the beginning of Fall semester.  Continue to check back here for further details...
